These spring kits have been used for years for boot lids and other panels, they allow for quick opening and allow you to dispense with the locking mechanism, reducing weight into the bargain.
We recommend using these for lightweight aluminium and composite panels, if you're using original steel boot lid panels or tailgates, a more substantial method is advised. Also available in a natural stainless finish.
